Maureen Hanson, Owner

Dance lessons can be a part of life learning: including discipline, cooperation, spacial awareness, and timing.  I believe learning is most effective in a disciplined atmosphere, beginning with proper attire and grooming. I will strive to impart to each student that they are the art that dance is made of and that they must take care of the material by properly nourishing their bodies.

I teach the students dance techniques and routines, while they have a good time, and I teach them to enjoy the success of accomplishing a challenge.

I realize that working with children is a privilege and enormous responsibility and that respect, courtesy and honesty must be demonstrated if it is to be expected from them in return.

I teach rhythms to help them move well, to impart a feeling of success that can be utilized in all aspects of life. This will build self-confidence and give them coordination that they will use for the rest of their lives.  Please email me with any questions at maureen@danceetcfw.com

Dance, Etc. of Fort Worth began in 1986 under the direction of Reggie Turnbo Milam. Maureen Hanson purchased the business in 2002 and continues the tradition of offering a variety of dance classes for all ages.

Dancing is more than just learning a dance routine. It provides students with many benefits that are not always noticed in the first few classes. Learning to dance can:

  • Increase self-confidence
  • Improves health and physical fitness
  • Enhance social skills, helping the student overcome shyness, meet people and make new friends
  • Improve their ability to follow instructions and increase their listening skills
  • Develop motor skills
  • Improve counting ability, timing and spatial relationships.
  • Activities that involve music have been shown to enhance learning in academic areas as well.
  • Acquire grace, poise and relieve stress.

It is never too late to enjoy the many benefits of dance and moving to music.

The discipline of just getting to the class can often times be a major obstacle. It is the parent's commitment to their child to help them get to class and to see that once they get to class, they enjoy themselves and can be proud of what they accomplished

The “Floating” Professional Dance Floor

Our raised floor is suspended to help absorb shock and the impact of regular dance movement. This benefits the students by reducing fatigue and helping to prevent injuries that can result from dancing on hard surfaces.

Performance Opportunities

Students have the opportunity to perform at various venues such as: Mayfest, nursing homes during Christmas, mall shows and a year-end recital. Performing Company students also have the option to participate in competitions at dance conventions.
